MARCH Visiting Scholar Series: A Day with Dr. Sara J. Grossman

Dr. Sara J. Grossman will join us on February 28 for two events, cosponsored with MARCH, both open to the public:

1. “The Data of Climate Crisis” – book talk

2. “Weather Printing: Rendering the Atmosphere of Shifting Climates” – workshop
1:00-3:00PM
Writers House, 305 Cooper Street

In this workshop, we will push against the notion that weather and climate knowledge is best rendered through numerical data. Instead, we will experiment with a form of weather rendering that utilizes cyanotype printing and the gathering of earth materials in the creation of a “local weather record.” Participants should wear close-toed shoes, and dress for the weather. Portions of this workshop will be held outside.

Dr. Grossman is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies on the Johanna Alderfer Harris and William H. Harris, M.D Professorship in Environmental Studies at Bryn Mawr College. She has published a book of poems, Let the House of Body Fall, and her first academic monograph, Immeasurable Weather, was published by Duke University Press in August 2023. She works at the intersection of U.S. environmental history and creative praxis, utilizing historical knowledge to mobilize for just environmental futures.
