Juliana Rausch headshotThis workshop will help writers develop skills for two different yet common business/professional writing scenarios: sending a positive news or routine email and sending a negative news email. Using a short reading from Josh Bernoff’s book Writing Without Bullshit as our guide, this workshop will ensure that writers understand how to compose, organize, and edit emails in a way that demonstrates a keen awareness of audience. Throughout the workshop, we’ll discuss, critique, and compose email messages that address a variety of rhetorical situations: requesting information from an organization, sending a follow-up email after a job interview, asking for a refund, etc. We’ll also discuss questions such as: How long should an email be? When is a face-to-face conversation more appropriate than an email? By the end of the workshop, writers will have specific templates and techniques for email correspondence that they will employ not only in their careers but also in their day-to-day lives.
