This creative workshop offers prompts that cover a variety of military issues and experiences. This encourages sharing stories, opinions, and ideas for productive writing/reflecting/story-telling and art-making. A highlight of these workshops for many veterans is having a space to release bottled-up thoughts and emotions among others who understand, creating a sense of empowerment in the ability to tell their own story. By creating an open and accepting atmosphere, we build a community of support. Workshops are for any service member or veteran regardless of experiences with writing, combat, art, deployment, etc. For this workshop, all veterans are welcome, but priority will be given to Rutgers students and alumni.
In addition, we accommodate people with all skill levels in art, including beginners. It is a safe space and we respect each other’s differences.
Please also join us for a poetry reading on April 18, featuring longtime Warrior Writers artists from the Philadelphia and New Jersey area, as well as emerging veteran writers from Rutgers.
All materials will be provided. Refreshments will be served.
Co-presented by the Writers House and Veteran Alumni of Rutgers University. Sponsored by the Rutgers University Alumni Association and Rutgers University Camden Alumni Association.
