As part of the Year of the Arts at Rutgers-Camden, the Writers House is teaming up with the Nick Virgilio Haiku Association to host several of NVHA’s beloved Midnight Notes workshops on Rutgers-Camden’s campus!

Write with local poets in a low-pressure environment on April 29 from 7-9pm at the Rutgers-Camden Writers House. Our host is local writer, poet, community organizer, and Rutgers-Camden alum Reet Starwind (CCAS’18). The Midnight Notes is a free late night workshop for poetry practice, where a featured poet leads us as we write on a common theme of the night. April 29’s theme is harmony, and our featured poet is Marrissa Joy. Free herbal tea is served courtesy of local vendor Hush Herbals, and if you can’t make it in person, catch the live stream on our host’s Instagram page @mrstarwind.

Music, writing materials, and tea will be provided. Enter through the rear door of the Writers House.

Our featured artist Marrissa Joy has a unique blend of expertise that extends well beyond poetry and writing. In addition to being a writer and lyricist, Marissa is an herbalist and the founder of NTRU Divine Essences, graduating from an herbalism apprenticeship program in 2023. Marrissa‘s music sound is primarily R&B melodies layered over introspective and poetic verses. To round out her performances, she often incorporates an element of sound healing with a handpan, a small round percussion instrument known for its soothing ringing tones. Marrissa endeavors to combine her various talents to provide a holistic relaxation experience for others, whether through sound or herbal knowledge.
