Haiku is central to Camden’s literary legacy, beginning with the work of Nick Virgilio, haiku poet, advocate, and longtime Camden resident. This March, we welcome special guest and haiku artist Tazuo Yamaguchi.

Kireji will be a performance by two-time world head to head Haiku champion Tazuo Yamaguchi. Raised in a Japanese family with a grandmother who was a master Shigin poet, Tazuo has had Haiku around him since day one. He will present, read, and perform haiku from his more than thirty years of practice. Incorporating the whimsical with the musical and philosophical, Tazuo will perform Haiku that delves deep into the art of the short poem, exploring the ways modern day spoken Haiku can counter a world overloaded with information.
