ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Ghosts, mysterious disappearances, talking animals, strange doublings. Adding a little magic to your short fiction can bring a story to life. It can help you explore old themes in new ways; discover deeper truths about your characters; and haunt the reader beyond the page. And it can be so much fun to write.
In this 3-hour class, we’ll discuss short stories and excerpts by masters of literary speculative fiction (including Karen Russell, Carmen Maria Machado, Laura van den Berg, and Helen Oyeyemi); explore related craft elements; and generate some writing of our own.
