Get to know the most exciting Latin American literary style: Magical Realism. With examples from Borges, Cortázar, García Márquez, Rulfo and Esquivel, write your own path to a mystical world. Participants will read excerpts of Magical Realism literature to understand the dynamics of Magical thinking in Latin American literature; then create, with help from writing prompts, flash fiction, short stories or poems. This workshop is open to writers in all genres. 
 
About the instructor 
Originally from Mexico, Carlos José Pérez Sámano is multi-genre writer, working in both fiction and poetry. He has published four books in Mexico and has also published in anthologies in Argentina, Spain, India and the U.S., including Who Will Speak for America? (Temple University Press). He works with the immigrant community in Philadelphia, and is currently writing an opera about decolonization and feminism.
