Sustaining Creative Practice with Jenzo DuQue

Drawing from Peter Elbow’s Writing With Power and Felicia Rose Chavez’s The Anti-Racist Writing Workshop, this lecture will focus on the process of writing, rather than the products. By learning how to embrace exploration on the page, as well as recognizing that our words evolve across stages, students will gain an understanding of how to sustain creative momentum, make decisions and not judgements about their work, as well as ways to revisit their raw writing and help realize its full potential. Attendees should come prepared with a writing instrument, notebook, and willingness to be vulnerable with themselves and others.

Jenzo DuQue is a Colombian American writer, editor, and teacher. He received his MFA from Brooklyn College, where he served as an editor for The Brooklyn Review. Jenzo has been awarded fellowships with PERIPLUS Collective, Shenandoah, The Aspen Institute, & Yaddo. Jenzo’s work has been published widely, as well as anthologized in The Best American Short Stories 2021 and in Best Microfiction 2022. His debut short story collection is forthcoming with Viking Books.
