The Writers House has received a 2018 Action Grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities for “Letters Home,” a project that will engage veterans and civilians around the creative and scholarly exploration of servicepeople’s communications to their loved ones.
Throughout the 2018-19 season, the Writers House will partner with Philadelphia-based nonprofit Warrior Writers to host a series of writing workshops for student and south Jersey veterans. In October, the House will bring Dr. Andrew Carroll, director of the Center for American War Letters, to campus to discuss the significance of war communications in American history and letters, in collaboration with veterans and family members. Throughout the year, veterans and family members will be invited to submit artifacts and oral histories to a digital exhibit of war communications.
